A HISTORY: 1927 TO 2015

This is a brief introduction to Bethany Lutheran Church and School. We hope you hit the link below to learn about us in more detail. The history of Naperville precedes 1927 when Bethany was founded. Lutherans already lived in this area. While Lutheran congregations had been established in some of the older and larger communities like Aurora and Downers Grove, those living in the Naperville area seemed to run into obstacles in trying to establish their own congregation. Things seemed right in 1927 when a group of 85 men, women, and children finally chartered Bethany. After renting facilities in town, Bethany built its own church in 1929 on Washington and 7th Avenue. Our school was opened in 1930. As you read through our history, you see how we outgrew our first church, went through three building programs at the 919 S Washington location, and finally came to 1550 Modaff Rd. in 1997 to meet the needs of our growing church and school. We already have had a second building program here to provide needed space. You will meet Bethany’s pastors, principals and teachers. You will see how Bethany grew and changed through time.
