Does Bethany offer contemporary worship? Does Bethany have traditional services?

Worship at Bethany is both - and neither. Like many parishes, Bethany seeks to unite God's family in worship that rises above stylistic preferences.

Christian worship begins with the crucified Christ, who comes to us in Word and Sacrament. He brings to the people of God forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. We in turn extol these gifts with joyful thanksgiving and praise, proclaiming the story of God's love through His Word.

This celebration is done in concert with the Church throughout the world, and finds its expression in the liturgy. Lutheran worship is traditional in that it is part of the timeless culture of the Church, and contemporary in that it effectively communicates the Gospel. Worship is the vocation of all baptized Christians. The Divine Service at Bethany is therefore designed to involve all who gather here in the name of the Lord.

Providing worship that achieves these noble ends is the responsibility of any Christian congregation. Bethany is currently in the midst of a 3-year plan to nurture authentic worship in the parish. This plan is not an end in itself. It is rather a documentation of Bethany's intention to continue the evangelical liturgical practice that has always characterized worship at Bethany and her sister churches.

Communion Statement:

We celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper in which we joyfully receive Christ's Body and Blood, under bread and wine, for the forgiveness of sins, life and salvation. As these gifts are personally received, those communing together also give public witness that they are one in doctrine.
In loving obedience to this teaching of Scripture, we therefore invite communicant members to all congregations in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to commune with us.

 Attendance Cards:

When you complete these cards found in each pew they provide us with information to welcome visitors properly, record attendance and communion for member care, and meet any ministry needs that you may have noted on your card.

 Our Paraments:

The liturgical hangings with their color and design remind us of the changing themes of the rhythm of the church year.

 ADVENT-BLUE (Hope)

We long for our Lord's return and our eternal life.

CHRISTMAS and EPIPHANY - WHITE (Light, Joy)

God gives Peace with the birth of His Son

 LENT-VIOLET (Solemn Penitence)

Christ by His death on the cross destroys Satan. The cross becomes the tree of life. God calls us to turn from our sin to the Lord. On Good Friday, the altar and pulpit are bare.

 SUNDAYS of EASTER-GOLD (Light, Joy)

"The Lamb who was slain has begun His reign." "Alleluia!" Praise the Lord!" Jesus Christ is the eternal Lord.

PENTECOST-RED (Fire of the Holy Spirit)

The Holy Spirit joins us to Christ as branches to a vine and brings forth the fruit of the spirit in our lives.

 SUNDAYS OF THE CHURCH-GREEN (Growth)

The Holy Spirit joins us to Christ as branches to a vine and brings forth the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.

Our Banners:

Our banners have been especially designed to enhance the worship experience and display messages that are appropriate for the season. You will also occasionally notice small baptismal banners that are presented to each child who is baptized as a remembrance of that special day.
